Nenu García w Polsce (en Polonia)

- Desde Junio de 2009, Polonia cuenta con una obra de la ceramista Nenu García.

"Fluidos II - Argentyjska Syrenka dla Warszawy" es ahora parte de una colección privada*.

En el momento de ser encargada la obra -réplica de la premiada "Fluidos" (2007)*-, la artista relacionó la forma de la escultura -con las piernas unificadas-y la textura de su esmalte (cuarteada, cual escamas) con la Sirena de Varsovia, símbolo de la ciudad.

Cuenta la leyenda que hace un millar de años, por las heladas aguas del Mar Báltico, dos sirenas - hermanas y curiosas- quisieron comenzar una aventura nadando ambas hasta el territorio de los humanos, para luego regresar a los suyos y compartir su experiencia.

Una sirena de ellas eligió navegar hasta las costas de Dinamarca, y hoy podemos verla yaciendo en una roca a la entrada de Copenhague. La otra hermana llegó nadando hasta a Gdansk, ciudad al norte de Polonia donde el rio Vístula desemboca.

Su curiosidad, infinita, la llevó a navegar río arriba. La pequeña sirena salió a descansar en un recodo del Vístula donde se deposita arena y tan sólo era una aldea sin nombre. Le cautivó tanto ese lugar que decidió quedarse allí. Los pescadores al ver que durante su pesca se agitaban las aguas y se creaban olas en el río, embrollándose las redes y liberándose los peces, decidieron descubrir la causa de semejante problema y acabarlo para siempre. Pero al oir los hermosísimos cantos de la sirenita, dejaron de lado sus planes y todos se enamoraron de la Sirenita, que en agradecimiento les cantaba a cada puesta del sol.

Cuenta que una vez un ambicioso mercader descubrió a la Sirenita y quiso capturarla y encarcelarla para lucirla en los mercados y ganar con ella una fortuna.Y así lo hizo. Pero los lamentos de la encacelada sirenita, fueron oídos por un humilde y valiente pescador. Una noche, ayudado por otros compañeros, rescató a la Sirenita de su celda, liberándola a las aguas del Vístula.

La sirenita, en prueba de su gratitud a aquellos que la habian salvado, les prometió que los defenderia siempre que fuera necesario. Es por eso que la Sirena de Varsovia esta armada con una espada y un escudo para defender a la ciudad.

Conociendo esta popular leyenda, Nenu García decidió titular esta pieza "Fluídos II - Argentyjska Syrenka dla Warszawy", respetando el título de la obra premiada y conectando las culturas Argentina y Polaca a través de esta "Sirenita Argentina para Varsovia".

* - Ref: En el 2009, esta es la segunda obra de Nenu García que forma parte de una colección privada en el exterior. "Si-Gota" (2008) is parte de una colección en República Dominicana. Desde 2008, año en que formó parte de la "First International Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Teapot Art", la obra "Fluidos" (2007) es parte de la colección del "Shangai Arts & Crafts Museum" en China.

Since June 2009, Poland has a Nenu García artwork.

"Fluidos II - Argentyjska Syrenka dla Warszawy" is now part of a private collection*.

When working on the requested sculpture -replic of "Fluids"* (2007), the artist related the shape of the sculpture -with the tight legs-and the texture of its glaze -with a craquele finish similar to scales- with the Mermaid of Warsaw, symbol of the city.

Once upon a time (which is when these things always take place) lived two mermaids in the Baltic Sea. These half-fish, half-women were beautiful sisters who had spent their whole existence in the sea, before apparently getting bored of the life aquatic. One day they both decided to come ashore. The first sister headed up to the Danish straits, and so she sits at the entrance to the port of Copenhagen to this very day. The other sister swam first to the port of Gdansk, from where she decided to swim the river Vistula to its end. Fortunately for our story, the mermaid decided to rest on a sandy bank on the foot of what is today Warsaw's Old Town and, like oh so many ex-pats in the city, she loved it so much that she chose to stay.Soon though, fishermen from the neighbouring village began to notice that someone was letting the fish out of their nets. Annoyed, they decided to capture the culprit and punish him. They didn't expect to find the mermaid, however, and as soon as they heard her beautiful voice, they vowed never to harm her (another reminder that men can be so easily swayed by a cute Polish chick). Soon, the mermaid would fill every evening with her gorgeous songs to the merriment of the villagers.One day, a rich merchant was walking by the Vistula and spotted the mermaid. He had the bright idea, as merchants do, to capture her and show her off at a fair, making himself a fat profit in the process. He tricked her and threw her in a wooden shed, but her cries for help were so loud that soon a young (and undoubtedly handsome) fisherman's son heard her, and with the help of friends set her free. The mermaid, grateful for their aid, promised to defend them and their village, which would later grow into our beloved Warsaw.Since then, the mermaid, armed with a sword and shield, has been protecting the city and its inhabitants.

By knowing this popular legend, Nenu García decided to title this art piece as "Fluídos II - Argentyjska Syrenka dla Warszawy", respecting the title of the prized artwork and connecting the cultures of Argentina and Poland.
